Just Sharing...

My colleague sent this link to us www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/happinessproject/. It's called, "How to Be Happier: 10 Tips for Being a More Lighthearted Parent". I took a few minutes to read it when I got the email and thought, you know what, I need to slow down and take some of these things into consideration. Sometimes I find myself grumpy all the time, or if I'm not grumpy, getting there quickly. That's not the person I want to be. Later I'll read it more closely and try to consider how I could apply some of this in class with my students as well. With us in the last quarter, the students are getting spring fever and the last place they are mentally is in the classroom. To be honest, some of us teachers are feeling the same way too. Well, just some food for thought.

  1. Hey glad you found my poetry blog.
We brougth our computer with on our trip, so here I am.

Happiness. Hmmm well, I have to say that the only real happiness I've found is in knowing God, then it trickles down from there. It's like looking through a lens for me, everything came into focus when I begin to know who He is, what is true about Him, and that He loves me. I see everything in my life through those lenses and I have come to realize that nothing makes me happier. Through Him, I can really know who I am and who He created me.

Anyway that's how I see it and how it's been for me.

  2. I was a cranky person all the time. More anger then cranky. I did not like the person I was becoming.I moved and have a much slower life. Which is helping.

  3. In the past I used to always have a song in my head and singing it all the time. I find that when I'm stressed it happens less and less. I plan on trying to slow down, breathe deep, start humming a tune.

  4. Hi, I found those recipes for you. I hope they are not to long to put on here.

    Refrig. Pickels
    7C unpeeled slicing cucumbers
    1 C. onion sliced
    1/2 C chopped green pepper
    2T Salt
    1T celery seed

Mix together and let stand overnight, drain juice in the morning and add 2C white sugar and 1C vinegar. Stir well and refrigerate.

    Cinnamon Pickles
1st day - peel and slice cucumbers into sticks. For One Gallon mix 1C. line, 4 1/2 Qts water, let stand 24 hours.

2nd day - drain and rinse, soak in clear water 3hrs. Drain, combine 1/2 C vinegar, 1/2 bottle of red food coloring and 1/2 teaspoon of Alum and enough water to cover pickels. Simmer 2 hours. Drain.

Syrup - bring to boil: 1C vinegar, 1C water, 5C Sugar, 4 sticks of cinnamon and 1/2 pkg of cinnamon red hots. Pour over pickles. Let stand overnight. Reheat drained syrup for 3 days, the third day seal. (I think if the liquid is boiling and you've boiled the lids and rings and keep them hot, you don't need to do water bath.)

PS - I haven't made these in a while and I forgot how labor intensive the cinnamon ones were. They do make great little homemade gifts for Christmas though.
