Writing is hard. I spend the day, periodically of course, thinking about what I could write about, I then sit with my laptop open before me pondering what I could write about again, yet I can’t seem to come up with anything that excites me. When I do get ideas, I’m usually in a situation that I can’t jot it down or begin writing, then when the moment arrives that I can write down a few lines to remind me for later, or when I sit before my laptop to write, my mind goes blank. Is it because my goal is larger than I’m ready for? Are my expectations too high? I can’t seem to figure out what it is that’s holding me back, but still I’m sitting here in the wee hours of the morning venting about it.
Why is it? Why can I talk for hours with a good friend but draw a blank when it comes to putting it down?
ReplyDeleteGetting thoughts organized and reaching in the hat of our brains can be a difficult task when we want to pull something magical out.
ReplyDeleteI often write with the old tools of notebook and pen and then transfer it to my computer. There is something about staring at that blank screen, that is a bit daunting.
I usually just scribble away on the paper with whatever thoughts are in my head and eventually they end up working themselves into a form that is interesting.
I'm sure you have a lot of wonderful and noteworthy things to say. Maybe it's just the good old writer's block acting up? Anyway, keep up the effort. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts.
P.S. I like it that you're honest with how you feel.
P.P.S. When I read that you were a language arts teacher, I thought wow, I'm really gonna have to watch my P's and Q's now!
Crochet Lady, Don't worry about your P's and Q's...I don't always watch mine. ;o) Aunt Krissy, I know what you mean. When the pressure's on, we go blank. Thanks ladies for your input and encouraging comments.
